Text-to-911 available in Minnesota

On December 5, 2017,  the Minnesota Department of Public Safety Emergency Communication Networks division announced that Text-to-911 service is available statewide in Minnesota.

Text-to-911 became available statewide in North Dakota in October 2016.  With the announcement of Minnesota’s Text-to-911 deployment, all callers within the Red River Regional Dispatch Center service area, which include Clay County, Minnesota and Cass County, ND  are now able to text 911 as an alternative to calling 911 in an emergency.

Texting should ONLY be used when individuals are unable to make a voice call.

Individuals who are deaf, deafblind, hard of hearing or speech impaired may use Text-to-911 as a first contact option.

Remember: “Call if you can, text if you can’t.”
