Text to 9-1-1 now available in North Dakota

On October 6, 2016, the State of North Dakota announced the statewide availability of Text to 9-1-1.

The Red River Regional Dispatch Center is able to accept Text to 9-1-1 calls from North Dakota.

Text to 9-1-1 should only be used in an emergency situation when placing a call to 911 is not possible.

It is important to note for callers in the Red River Regional Dispatch Center area that Text to 9-1-1 is not available in Minnesota.   The state of Minnesota is working on a statewide launch of Text to 9-1-1 and expecting to go live in the coming months.    Currently, if a text is sent to 9-1-1 from  Minnesota, the texter will receive a message that Text to 9-1-1 is unavailable.   If a text is sent from North Dakota near the Minnesota/North Dakota border and the text happens to go through a cell tower in Minnesota, the texter may also receive a message that Text to 911 is unavailable.

Remember –  Call if you can.  Text if you can’t.
