Voters turned out on November 4, 2014 and cast their ballots for a number of candidates as well as state and local initiated measures. Cass County Measure #1 was one of the measures on the ballot and asked for voters to decide on raising the current $1.00 per month fee for all emergency communication devices to $1.50 per month. The orginal fee had been in place for over thirty years. This was the first time the voters have been asked to raise the fee and they overwhelming agreed by a 61 – 39 % margin.
The increased revenue will be used to help keep pace with the growing population in our region which results in more 911 calls every year for public safety services. The need for the RRRDC to grow its employee numbers is critical to maintianing a high level of service.
Also of importance is the ever increasing need to keep up with technological demands. Replacement of analog equipment with digital hardware and software will insure that the public will have a redundant and resilient 911 Center.
